Why choose the Academy of Code?

For over a decade, the Academy of Code has been the premier destination for coding education, offering both online and offline classes to students in Ireland and beyond. Here’s why our program stands out:

  • Low Tutor-to-Student Ratio: We pride ourselves on maintaining one of the lowest tutor-to-student ratios (7:1 or better), ensuring each child receives the personalised attention they need to succeed.

  • Small Class Sizes: With fewer students per class, your child will benefit from more interaction and hands-on support.

  • Expert and Friendly Tutors: Our experienced instructors are passionate about coding and dedicated to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment.

  • Self-Paced Learning: Our flexible approach allows students to learn at their own pace, ensuring they fully grasp each concept before moving on.

  • Fun and Engaging Content: We make coding fun with interactive lessons that encourage creativity and critical thinking.

  • Create Their Own Games and Ideas: Students get the opportunity to bring their ideas to life by creating their own games and projects.

  • Meaningful Learning Outcomes: Our comprehensive curriculum ensures that students gain valuable skills and knowledge, preparing them for a tech-driven future.

Choose the Academy of Code to give your child a head start in the world of coding, where learning is both fun and impactful.

What do our customers say about us?

Low Tutor-to-Student Ratio:

The ease of being able to ask the tutor” - Sam

Expert and Friendly Tutors:

"Friendly instructors who are good at troubleshooting with the children" - Parent of Autumn 2023 term student

“She liked the way that the teachers were so helpful with any queries that she had” - Martin Casey

Self-Paced Learning:

"I appreciate that you tailor the curriculum to each child's proficiency level and progressively advance it each year." -  Parent of Autumn 2023 term student

Fun and Engaging Content:

“My child enjoyed everything from start to finish” - Clare Harkin

Create Their Own Games and Ideas:

"The fact that the class uses creativity/art to teach coding is really great. Ailbhe is more arty but she can see that coding is an essential tool in the creative world now. Lyra is more mathsy and she just loves making things happen using code. The teachers are far more adept on Zoom than on anything else they've done and being able to interact with the kids' own screen/code while explaining encourages the kids to ask questions." - Róisín Ní Mhuircheartaigh

Meaningful Learning Outcomes:

“I appreciate that you tailor the curriculum to each child's proficiency level and progressively advance it each year.” - Parent of Autumn 2023 term student

parent feedback

We actively solicit feedback from parents at least once per term. This feedback is invaluable in guiding curriculum changes, updating class formats, and much more. Importantly, it serves as a great affirmation for our team that we’re heading in the right direction with our classes.

Since summer 2014, we’ve asked parents to rate several statements on a scale every term. Here are the three most important questions and our exceptional feedback scores:

My child thoroughly enjoyed the online classes:

  • Average score: 89.52% over 10 years.

My child learned a lot during the Spring term classes:

  • Average score: 87.99% over 10 years.

I would recommend The Academy of Code to a friend:

  • Average score: 92.73% over 10 years.

We take pride in these scores as they reflect our commitment to providing an outstanding educational experience for every student.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD LEARN?

Whether your child is a total beginner or has some existing coding experience, we make sure that students enter our unique Pathway to Computer Science program at a level that is appropriate to them.

Each student will primarily follow the structured Pathway to Computer Science program. Our low student to teacher ratio and small class sizes allows tutors to adapt the curriculum to cater to all abilities.

Our Pathway to Computer Science has been continuously developed and improved upon over the last 10 years.

CODING TERM FORMAT

CODE FOR One or Two Days per Week

DAY 1 - CORE CODING CLASS

This is the core coding class that all students who join the Olus Academy of Code take. Each 1hr class (1.5hr for ages 13+) takes students through our Pathway grade by grade - advancing and improving their coding skills week by week and year by year.

DAY 2* - PATHWAY EXTENSION CLASS

In addition to the core coding class, students can also register for an extra hour of coding per week during term. These Pathway Extension classes focus on engaging students with more computer science topics such as web development, Python and game development in a fun and interactive environment.

This extra hour offers a fantastic opportunity for students to solidify the knowledge they acquire in the core class while exploring additional aspects of coding.

*Note: This second class per week is not available for the Parent & Child age group (ages 7-8) and is exclusively for students who have also signed up for a core coding class. You can find the schedule for these classes here

WHAT CLASS SHOULD MY CHILD JOIN?

At the Academy of Code we want to make registration as easy as possible. There’s no need to worry about picking the right class based on your child’s experience or skill level. Simply register them for the correct age group and we will do the rest!
